I have found it best to stick to the perimeter of the grocery store and avoid shopping for pre-packaged groceries in the middle of the grocery store.
Of course, I always have a shopping list, and I choose whole foods from the fresh veggies and fruits in the produce section as well as the wonderful selection of beans, grains, nuts and seeds from the bulk food section. There are so many wonderful colors and choices of fresh whole food items that will cook up into several delicious and satisfying meals. If you fill up your food cart with these items, it will help you to eliminate the foods like chips and soda that sabotage your healthy diet choices.
Also, I don’t shop for food on an empty stomach. Before you head to the store, have that healthy meal, or healthy snack. You will be less likely to be tempted to buy that non-nutritious food…because the packaging is so attractive!
