Make Salad The Main Dish

I want to continue sharing some take-aways from listening to Dr. Fuhrman: When you want to get started on the road to a healthier life, you have to start somewhere and the place to start is with salads. The first foods you eat at a meal influence what you will eat and how much you will eat. So, instead of looking in the freezer, like my mom used to, and trying to decide what to defrost for tonight — pork chops or hamburger — make salad the main dish.

Eating a big salad is the simplest and most effective way to:

  1. Prevent overeating
  2. Make sure you add more veggies to your diet
  3. Make sure you never have a weight problem

In fact, here is something you can print out and put on your refrigerator to remind you:

Make Salad the main dishThe only other thing to remember is to not stuff yourself. Don’t eat until you are uncomfortable. You shouldn’t become aware of your stomach so don’t eat until your tummy feels uncomfortable.

Of course you can always add a serving of hot soup or a bean chili…especially since the days are cooler – they lend themselves to soup! The point is for one meal a day, make it a salad.

I’d really like to hear if you cut out the pic and put it on your fridge!

Cheers, Karen

Sound advice as always Karen (of Karen’s Veggie Kitchen).

Even though Homer Simpson might claim that “You don’t win friends with salad”, others would find salads quite friendly and tasty!
