Like most of us I make a lot of decisions in a day and I find that I tend to make the best decisions if I take some time to plan and organize. I use this same useful concept when it comes to eating healthy. Taking some time to plan helps me make the right decisions on what to eat. It helps me be prepared with good-tasting, healthy foods available at all times to lessen the temptation to eat out of the candy bowl on my co-workers desk. It helps me avoid the extra goodies that are starting to appear in the staff room like Christmas cookies, homemade fudge, caramel popcorn, chips and dip and other high calorie snacks and goodies.
Yes, many of them look good, but “once on the lips forever on the hips.” So having a yummy lunch in the staff refrigerator and a bowl of cherry tomatoes or a crisp apple or banana or some fun kiwi available on my desk makes it easier to avoid mindless nibbling.
I find it helpful to make shopping lists so I have all the ingredients for yummy recipes. I try hard to cook enough for multiple meals. There’s no reason to be stuck in the kitchen cooking a complete meal every night, and that way I have something easy and quick to pop into my lunch bag for work or prepare before I head to the theatre for a show. I wash and prepare my vegetables so that I am able to make up easy salads or have them handy to put out on a pretty plate for dipping into that yummy hummus I love so much!
I believe it’s a fact, the better you plan the better you will be able to keep on track.
